Activities
Non-Traditional Sports and Activities
PAL believes that all youth, specially those from disadvantaged circumstances,
should have the opportunity to engage in activities and sports that are not common within their social circle, geographic area, or financial reach. Thus, activities such as off road motorcycling, hiking, camping, and kayaking are offered each year.
All sports activities emphasize the PAL concepts of discipline, respect, responsibility, hard work, and sportsmanship!
Fresno “Life After High School”
This four-day event will focus on providing these youth with intensive workshops on admission requirements to enter the University of California system, California State Universities, Private colleges, and Trade/Vocational Colleges. They will also learn about Military opportunities and apprenticeships in carpentry, electrical and plumbing. Students will have workshops on checking/Saving accounts, the perils of credit cards and landlord/tenant contracts.
Sacramento Experience
The purpose of the trip is for the Hollenbeck PAL Youth Leadership Council participants to develop their leadership and life skills. They will have the opportunity to meet their local legislators and interact with over 300 other PAL youths from across California. It is an outstanding opportunity for the Hollenbeck Pal youths to explore their personal strengths through workshops and inspirational speakers. The ultimate goal is for the Hollenbeck PAL youths to discover a new respect for themselves as they begin to understand their responsibilities and shape their place in society.
California Pal Beach Play Day
One of our most highly attended summer events is the California PAL Beach Play Day which is held at Huntington Beach State Park in Huntington Beach, CA. in July. Progressing through various event rotations such as Boogie Boarding, Beach Flag Races, Swimming and many others, the kids are able to have fun on the beach in a safe and supervised environment. The kids also have the opportunity to camp overnight on the beach in military style tents.
Off-Road Pals
Our youth are taught how to ride ATVs (All Terrain Vehicles) then allowed to ride on off-road trails. There is also an instructor’s course for PAL irectors/volunteers who wish to teach kids how to ride ATVs. California State Parks maintains motorcycles and ATV’s at each SVRA site. There is no cost to the PALS/SALS to use the vehicles and equipment.
