Officer Donald Levier who runs PAL’s nutrition program, Fit 4 Kids, has taken this popular program on the road, expanding it to both USC’s East College Prep Academy and Puente Learning Center in Boyle Heights.
Servicing 56 students just in the summer, we have been invited back by the staff at the school by allowing us to continue with the program during this upcoming fall and spring semesters for their students. Officer Levier teaches the students basic nutritional facts, like reading food labels and cutting down on sugar and sodium intake while making exercising fun. Officer Levier plays thumb war while in a push up position.
All techniques that are taught to the youth are methods they can continue at home or with their friends at school without the use of additional gym equipment. PAL recognizes that gyms and gym memberships are not always accessible to our youth in Boyle Heights and we strive to make their lives not only fun, but healthy.
